About the San Angelo, Texas Area
San Angelo, TX
San Angelo is the county seat of Tom Green County, Texas, United States. It is also the principal city of the “San Angelo, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area” that includes all of Irion County, and Tom Green County. As of the United States Census, 2000, San Angelo had a total population of 88,439.
The city is located at the Confluence of the North Concho River and South Concho River, which in turn form the Concho River, a tributary of the Colorado River (Texas).
San Angelo is home to Angelo State University and a branch campus of Howard College.
San Angelo is also home to the Fort Concho National Historic Landmark. During the late 19th century, it was the headquarters of the U.S. 10th Cavalry Regiment|, which was made up mainly of “buffalo soldiers.” A yearly Christmas festival called "Christmas at Old Fort Concho" is held at the fort today.
Town & Country Food Stores, a multi-million dollar company, is headquartered in and has a strong presence in San Angelo.
Local sports teams include the San Angelo Colts, a United League Baseball Minor league baseball team; as well as the San Angelo Stampede Express, a minor league indoor football team.
Goodfellow Air Force Base is also located at the city's outskirts. The primary tasks of the units stationed there are intelligence specializing in linguistics training and firefighter training.
Mathis Field (also known as San Angelo Regional Airport) is the commercial airport serving the city.
San Angelo's main newspaper is the “San Angelo Standard-Times”.
Famous San Angeloans include Western author Elmer Kelton, and grammy award winners “The Los Lonely Boys.” Matthew McConaughey’s ranch is near Mertzon in Irion County; he shops in San Angelo

Christoval is a census-designated place (CDP) in Tom Green County, Texas, United States. Christoval is situated in scenic rolling hills along the South Concho River. The population was 422 at the 2000 census. It is part of the 'San Angelo, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area'.
Mertzon, TX
Paint Rock, TX
Paint Rock is a town in and the county seat of Concho County, Texas, United States.[3] The population was 320 at the 2000 census.
The town's name comes from Indian pictographs painted on cliffs overlooking the nearby Concho River.
A chapter titled, "An Episode of Paint Rock" is devoted to the town in the 1895 book, "A Lone Star Bo-Peep, and Other Tales of Texan Ranch Life" written by Howard Seely. The chapter chronicles the week of May 5, 1883 in Paint Rock and features several local residents in the text.
